Alexander Zharov, Head of ROSKOMNADZOR, feels certain that the international organizations or UN institutes rather than the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN) should play the key part in the Internet regulation.
“It’s not necessary to speak about the location of the ICANN servers in the USA, we can speak about ICANN influenced by the American administration that raises concerns”, - he announced in his interview to the TASS Agency in Wuzhen, China, where Head of Federal Service was participating in the World Internet Conference.
“At the same time ICANN realizes that it should escape from the monopoly influence of the only country to the multipolar or multifactorial regulation of the Internet by all the countries. Therefore, at present the Brazilian Agency in conjunction with ICANN has declared the foundation of some administrative body affiliated in the UN”, - A. Zharov said.
“In this respect everybody understands that the international organizations or UN institutes should play the key part in the Internet regulation”, - he stressed. According to the words of Head of ROSKOMNADZOR one of the purposes of Wuzhen Forum was the discussion of these approaches by Russia with China and other countries. “My understanding is that there are Brazilians that assume similar attitude”, - Head of ROSKOMNADZOR noted.
